Benefits of a Home Spa
The therapeutic benefits of a hot tub are what attract many people to give careful consideration to the decision over whether or not to purchase one for their personal use.
Many of these people had their first experience with a hot tub while staying at a hotel or resort. Others had their first encounter at a health club or at a friend’s house, but everyone who has felt the relaxation that sitting in warm water while jets of water gently massage tired muscles and joints knows that along with the physical benefits of soaking, anxiety and stress levels are also greatly reduced.
For some people, there are also hygiene considerations. While hotels, resorts and community recreation centers expend considerable effort to maintain safe water conditions, there is occasionally the possibility of contagious bacteria getting past their defenses. This is a small risk, but one with the potential for severe negative consequences that is more than sufficient to tip the balance in some people’s mind toward owning their own spa.
Once this personal decision has been made, it is time to consider such things as spa size and accessories.
The size chosen will represent something of a compromise that is similar to that represented by the purchase of a vehicle. In most instances, the hot tub will be occupied by one or two people, but just as a car will occasionally have passengers, it is nice to be able to accommodate an additional two or three soakers in the spa. A good rule of thumb is to calculate 100 gallons of water per person. There is some latitude in this figure, but 350 to 400 gallons would be a nice size for four people, without being excessive for the majority of the time when only one or two people are present.
A spa cover is the only other necessity. This acts as an insulator to keep the water warm when the spa is not being used. It also keeps debris such as pine needles or leaves from getting inside the hot tub where it could potentially be sucked into the filtration system and impede the proper circulation needed to maintain water cleanliness. Buying hot tub covers is no easy task, you need to make sure it is also compatible with a lifter.
The final item with which to begin, a spa cover lifter, is considered an accessory, but it is an essential one.
A spa cover lifter makes it possible for one person to easily remove and replace the cover. This accessory is worth in convenience many times its initial cost. This fact will be immediately impressed upon anyone who would like to enjoy a relaxing soak on a brisk winter evening and then get out of the hot tub and back indoors without spending three or four minutes wrestling with the spa cover while exposed to winter wind and cold.
